The Study of Life
Sarracenia purpurea, also known as the Northern Pitcher Plant is a carnivorous plant. The 'pitcher-like' leaves fill up with rainwater, and insects drown inside. Decomposers, larvae, and enzymes inside the water break down the prey, which makes the nutrients available for the plant.
